La Violencia

A story about hope as two women—one in Canada, the other in Colombia—each search for their missing sister under a dancing full moon night.

Told in Spanish and English, La Violencia integrates aerial dance, theatre and projected imagery.

In Canada, Amy waits for her sister in Vancouver's notorious Downtown Eastside. As she peers out the window of her sister's derelict room, she remembers the dreams and aspirations they shared as children. In rural Colombia, Innocencia reaches the edge of the Magdalena River only to find that her sister is not yet there. As she waits, she speaks to the full moon about her dreams for a new a life once she and her sister arrive in the big city of Bogota.

Living inside the moon is Spirit Woman, danced by Diana Casis in a ten foot diameter globe handing fifteen feet off the ground.
