Cedar Woman

Tasha's newest work is a living prayer for all our relations.

Cedar Woman breathes life into the future. She comes from the Great Flood when the Xaals transformed her into a cedar tree, the sacred tree of life. May her spirit rise within us. This profound and emotionally stirring work centres a Coast Salish mask carved by Ocean Hyland and a large cedar box carved by Xwalacktun OBC, as dancers gather to protect the sacred.

"At the core of me, is you. The first seed that planted and grew and grew and grew. I am your prayers. I am all your dreams wrapped into me. I am your every fall and rise and fall and rise again and again. When I fight and lose and fight and lose it is your voice that sings in mine and my daughter’s after me. We are a legacy. Coast Salish women. Cedar Women." — Tasha Faye Evans
